North Carolina Students Explore Careers in Virtual Healthcare Career Day

March 3, 2025 – Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina Healthcare Association (NCHA) partnered with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to host a Virtual Healthcare Career Day on February 28. This event was developed to inspire middle and high school age students across North Carolina to join the healthcare field.

“Hospital and healthcare workers are the heartbeat of our communities, playing a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of every North Carolinian,” said NCHA president and CEO, Josh Dobson. “Virtual Healthcare Career Day is an opportunity to get inspired and get connected to a career in healthcare – a field full of purpose, growth and impact.”

The program featured various in-demand healthcare careers, including nursing, physical and occupational therapy, radiology and imaging, medical assistants, and laboratory sciences. Nearly 150 teachers registered their classrooms, and the event reached over 3,500 students across the state. Students watched videos featuring real North Carolina healthcare professionals showcasing a day in their lives and answered questions about starting their careers.

“There are so many opportunities in early education to gain hands-on experience in healthcare,” said Trey Michael, senior director of the Office of Career and Technical Education. “Pursuing a healthcare-focused educational pathway is a great way to get a head start on a career caring for others.”

The event was recorded and is available at IDoCareNC.org for students to watch at their convenience. This includes private school students, homeschool students, and adult learners interested in a career in health care. The website also offers additional resources, including healthcare career profiles, hospital teen programs, and more.

NCHA would like to thank the following partners for generously sharing their time, talent, and data to support Virtual Healthcare Career Day, helping to inspire and guide the next generation of professionals:
