North Carolina hospitals and health systems are committed to eliminating health disparities so that everyone has access to the care they need to achieve their highest potential for health. Our health is determined in part by social and economic factors, including employment, housing, education, health care, public safety and food access. Eliminating disparities also includes addressing the underlying social determinants of health, many of which are shaped and perpetuated by bias, injustice and inequality.
The NC Healthcare Foundation:
- Monitors the health equity footprint in North Carolina.
- Engages stakeholders and the community in efforts that address root causes and social determinants of health across the lifespan.
- Provides technical assistance and serves as a prime resource on health equity by communicating health equity principles, needs, and best practices.
- Strengthens the capacity of the North Carolina workforce to address health equity.
- Supports the adoption of policies that ensure NC health services have a health equity lens.
