
Anthony Okunak
Vice President, Finance/Financial Policy
Anthony Okunak is the vice president of financial policy/services at the North Carolina Healthcare Association, a statewide trade association representing more than 130 health systems and hospitals.
Mr. Okunak has over 13 years’ experience in healthcare finance. Prior to NCHA, he led consulting work for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). For NCDHHS, areas of focus included Medicaid disproportionate share hospital audits and Medicaid cost report reviews, ensuring North Carolina hospitals received the proper settlement on Medicaid payments. For CMS, he performed Medicare Advantage program audits, including the compliance review of pharmacy benefit managers.
In his current role, Mr. Okunak addresses the key financial service needs of member hospitals as they navigate the ongoing changes in healthcare finance. He provides guidance and assistance with billing, reimbursement, and compliance issues for multiple payers, including Medicare and Medicaid. Additionally, Mr. Okunak supports policy development and advocates for critical healthcare needs that benefit North Carolina, including the recently enacted Medicaid expansion (600,000 newly-insured) and Healthcare Access and Stabilization Programs.
Mr. Okunak has an undergraduate degree from the East Carolina University College of Business with a concentration in business administration and accounting.
